All characters are xviii and described drinking (while in a country where the drinking age is xviii). Additionally sex is referenced but it is brief and non specific. I would still say due to the emphasis on relationships and discussions of slut shaming this book is not for younger audiences. (less)

NEVER Ever GETTING Dorsum TOGETHER wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for a few well-known celebrities.

Initially, the volume started as 2 completely dissimilar, unrelated book pitches. 1 f/f well-nigh a reality prove, another about rival YouTube streamers. My editor and I spent a lot of time discussing how fame affects teens and young adults while developing these ideas, and, during these talks, a vocal chosen Commuter’s License released, and all the western world wanted to talk about was a honey triangle betwixt three teen celebrities I’d never heard of. “I matter,” I said, “hasn’t changed: the world is creepily obsessed with the dating lives of their favourite teen celebrities (Hilary vs Lilo! Taylor Swift and her dating history!).”

And that’s when nosotros realized the two stories should actually be one story. A story set in a world similar to our own, where one of these beautiful young celebrities with a checky dating history ends up not just in the tabloids and forums and trending hashtags, but on his ain reality show, giving people a front row seat to the teen celeb dating drama. Simply the beautiful young person whose dating life the world is now obsessed with? Is one of the slimiest people in being. And though he might be the star in the eyes of the world, this story wouldn’t be almost him. It’d be about the two teen girls who are set up to be rivals, ripe for the press’s consumption, but instead decide to team up to take. Him. Down.

Oh, and they fall in love, too. Only . . . not with him.

It’s funny. Books aren’t created in a vacuum, and this was a book born of the pandemic. Written in lockdown, past a very tired, deplorable, aroused author. And what was meant to exist a one-act ended upward with a lot of rage in it. Rage that was exacerbated by news stories, of accusations, of public trials. The first typhoon of NEGBT had very little one-act in it. The humour didn’t come until later, once I’d torn the pages to shreds with my fury. Until I was emptied of it. That’southward when I was able to take a stride dorsum and see the funny side of it all. And that’southward the healing power of books, I think. Being able to find the light in a storm cloud. Enough calorie-free to motion a book betwixt entire genres, even. Sitting in the hopelessness, and finding the promise anyway.

I know I felt all of those things while writing it, and though I’ll never know from a reader’due south perspective exactly how those emotions terminate up coming through, I do promise this story gives you some light. And, if nothing else, I promise it gives yous a little catharsis. If you’re annihilation like me, after these last few years, you need it!

i hateful it was definitely catty. this book took the Bachelor reference seriously. it was every girl for herself for the most part. everyone believed the man every single time and i wanted to shake the characters at times and scream FEMINISM in their faces.

but honestly, it's worth just buying for the Taylor Swift reference.

thanks to netgalley for trusting me to review this and probably regretting it now.

DNF @ 70%

I was *so* excited to receive this ARC as Sophie Gonzales is i of my favorite YA authors, and throughout the novel I kept pushing myself to keep just in case it got ameliorate—but I'm about lxx% through and it's not getting better and I fear I'one thousand going to be put into a reading slump if I endeavour and finish this i out, and so I'll outline why I DNF'd in instance anybody else finds it helpful.

#one: the chief characters. I love the idea of 2 girls on a dating show falling for each other instead of the human being they're supposed to exist chasing, so I was super excited for this romance. Nonetheless, the main characters literally neither had any personality traits across their (justifiable) dislike for the main guy, who is both of their ex-beau. Both characters were Then dry out; I couldn't connect to them at *all* considering they literally didn't have any discernible personality traits. Information technology was odd!

#2: In that location is no reason why this volume was YA instead of adult. The whole concept of being on a dating show where half-dozen different contestants are competing to get a 2nd take chances with their ex-beau is just /and so/ not YA. Firstly, how does this guy take so many ex's at his young age lol?? And even if he did, there’s no fashion any of them were genuinely serious which really impacts the emotional punch and believability. Merely also I just found information technology unrealistic that a bunch of 18-20 year olds would be put on a dating show period, and it would be so much better if it was new developed (a la The Charm Offensive) instead.

Lastly, #3: the writing. The writing was so stilted, and just not a good quality. Not very descriptive, and non very atmospheric. This kinda goes dorsum to the characters-having-no-personalities thing, but the book simply felt kinda corporate...? Perchance thats the wrong word, merely it felt as though the author wasn't actually passionate almost what she was writing, and was just trying to grind out a novel. The love in this book simply didn't come through to me at all. Which again, was so disappointing because I loved Sophie Gonzales's other novels.

Overall, I'm already seeing this book get tons of good reviews, then I don't want to necessarily discourage others from reading this volume, but I just didn't like it at all. TY to Wednesday Books for the ARC 🙂

Reading NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER wasn't enough. I need to personally punch Jordy in the face up… with a chair.

Except for creating one of my most hated men e'er, though, Sophie Gonzales and her books are a little similar best friends, and even if this metaphor started off every bit a little joke, I don't think information technology is anymore. I mean, call up nearly it:

- who has yous choking on your own laughter and crying past midnight?
- who is e'er in that location for y'all when you need comfort?
- who has you nodding yes when they call people out on things?
- who brings you so much joy while also making y'all realize deeper, darker parts of yourself?
- who do you love with all of your center?

Exactly! Best friends
and
Sophie Gonzales's books!

As she'due south one of my favourite authors, I had high expectations of NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER, but information technology didn't miss whatsoever of these. It's full of humor and heart and, well, chaos. I mean, what else could you expect from a concept like this?

I take so many lovely things to say about everything in this volume. Except for Jordy, that is. The jokes and the romance and the friendships and the overall girlpower, though? I am obsessed!

NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER will inevitably go a new comfort read of mine, and Sophie Gonzales has yet again proven herself unstoppable in my optics. I tin't wait to concur this beautiful book!

My confession of the 24-hour interval is that I have never watched a full episode of either

Of class I have watched clips and sympathize the general idea, I'm non a barbarous. I as well recognize it is an accented sensation and many people love it.

After having so much fun with this book, I recollect I may need to binge some!

The gear up-up of
Never Always Getting Dorsum Together
feels very ode' to
The Available
and frankly I was living for it.

We follow rich, related-to-royalty, arguably-mannerly playboy, Jordy, getting his ain reality television receiver prove,
2d-Chance Romance.

For the bear witness, ex-girlfriends of Jordy'due south volition be living together in a mansion, interacting with him and each other, participating in challenges and generally biding for his attention. Week-by-week, Jordy sends i girl packing, until the time comes for his terminal choice.

Maya dated Jordy two-years ago and the break-upwardly was rough. He cheated on her for months before ultimately calling it quits all of a sudden when she called him out on his beliefs.

Skye dated Jordy directly after Maya. In fact, Maya's reputation precedes her. Jordy warned Skye how jealous and crazy Maya got after he bankrupt upward with her.

Skye can't believe Maya is joining the show too. Isn't she like a security risk or something?

When Maya learns Skye, the daughter who stole Jordy from her, is going to be participating on the show also, she'south furious. This girl knowingly dated Jordy behind her dorsum for months. Who does that? Filthy liars, that'south who.

Arriving at the mansion the two girls acquire an even more horrible truth, they're being forced to room together. They're quite literally bunk-mates.

They endeavour to musculus through it, they might even be contractually-obligated to, simply it own't gonna exist piece of cake. Along with four other girls, Maya and Skye start to settle into their new normal and compete for the ultimate prize: Jordy.

Maya's no fool though. She knows Jordy as well well to fall for whatsoever of this smoke in mirrors. Jordy hasn't changed and that'due south fine past her. Maya isn't dreaming of becoming Jordy's one-true love, she'due south dreaming of revenge.

I had a lot of fun with this. Particularly the set-up, information technology was adorable. The narrative alternates between Skye and Maya, first a little earlier they even concord to be on the testify.

The backdrop of the mansion, filming the reality show, it was great. I felt like I was getting a real glimpse behind the scenes of an actual show. Information technology felt very realistic.

I also liked the mix of personalities that the contestants had. They all had their ain motivations for being there and few of those actually revolved effectually Jordy, or love.

Skye and Maya's interactions, as they got to know i some other, as they battled and and so began to drop their defenses; I idea that was really well done also.

My only slight issues with this story would be that I feel similar it may accept worked meliorate if the story was actually written as New Adult, or Adult. It could have gone farther in the exploration of the relationships.

Also, I didn't experience the chemistry betwixt the characters. I didn't detect the romance that ultimately transpires believable.

These are tiny critiques though and both of these things are simply my personal opinion. Overall, this volume is adorable every bit heck and I really enjoyed following the concept through to the stop.

I was lucky enough to heed to an audio copy and definitely recommend that medium. The narrators did an incredible job bringing this story to life.

Thanks so much to the publisher, Wed Books and Macmillan Audio, for providing me with copies to read and review. I am absolutely looking frontward to more from Sophie Gonzales!!

Ii years ago, Maya dumped her swain Jordy later she found out that he had been cheating on her with a girl named Skye. Now most people accept an ex who did them wrong, merely very few take one who then becomes a world-famous heartthrob after their sister marries a European prince. Capitalizing on his fame and public reputation, a new reality bear witness called “2nd Chance Romance” is giving Jordy and his many exes a take a chance to reconnect
Bachelor-style to run into if Jordy tin detect “the i that got away.” Maya agrees to get on the show, hoping to brand it to the final and publicly humiliate Jordy. What Maya never considered was Skye….

Maya and Skye characterize
Never Ever Getting Back Together
in alternating beginning-person capacity. Because of the setup, the reader is well ahead of Maya in realizing that Skye is much more just the daughter Jordy cheated on her with. The story works in large office because they are both fully developed characters—I’m always a sucker for snarky characters like Maya—who are working through something painful in their past. Their evolution from enemies to friends to maybe more than is conceivable and well-written, with picayune hints that they’re attracted to each other that they don’t seem to find at offset because of their distraction past Jordy. The grand gesture is entirely predictable notwithstanding notwithstanding completely satisfying.

On one level, this volume is a nice reminder of the old Confucius maxim that “earlier y'all embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves,” because Maya’s programme comes at a cost to herself. Merely that’s overly dramatic.
Never Always Getting Back Together
is a sweetness, funny, entertaining closed door romcom. Recommended.

They 'sounded' (in my caput) like the aforementioned person. 🤷‍♀️ No singled-out mannerisms or tones to set them apart. Win the show, make Jordy fall for her again, and and so break his heart and reveal the truth at the terminate of the season. But all Maya'due south plans don't account for Skye.

Skye is the girl Jordy cheated on Maya with. But Maya tin't seem to keep being angry at her, especially when it seems Skye is willing to listen to Maya's side of things. If the two can forge a reluctant brotherhood, they might have a improve adventure of taking Jordy down.

I do savor Goggle box competitions, but Jordy was gross and I hated all the interactions the girls had with him. He is just the worst (and was written this way on purpose). Merely the joy of this book was Maya and Skye. I was so thrilled when they started working together, and it happened so easily and much quicker than I expected. I really loved them teaming up. They are stray and I live for it.

While I loved both of the girls, Maya actually stood out to me. I loved how angry and righteous she could exist. She was supposed to be the villain of the show, simply I loved seeing an angry female grapheme WIN for once. I take read and loved many of Sophie’s books and when I opened my inbox to an advance copy of her gorgeous upcoming release NEVER EVER GETTING Dorsum TOGETHER information technology didn’t matter that information technology doesn’t release until 12/half dozen I but HAD to driblet everything to read information technology!

What I love almost about Gozales' writing style is how she jumps right in! Her books always catch me from the start, managing to brand her characters and so real and relatable they feel similar friends and I’k instantly invested in what’s happening to them.

Having read a few reality TV gear up books in the past twelvemonth or so, this one had a bully spin that I was immediately giddy over the potential of. Gonzalez nailed it, making it unique with information technology being EXES competing for affection to win the heart of a bachelor that they'd each already dated at one fourth dimension. Split into dual points of view by Maya, who nosotros get-go the story with + Skye, the girl she believes he cheated on her with and then dated this one promised all the best drama and behind the scenes fun.

Taking second chance romance to a whole new level, this reality show has six women competing for Jordy’s affection and each of the characters brings something special to the take chances.

"I'chiliad sure Hans Christian Anderson was only almost to start on the tale of the half-dozen princesses who battled to the death for the prince who already dumped their asses in one case," Francessa says dryly. "That's some real magical shit, there."

For those of you like me, living in America the Simply thing that threw me off about the volume was that I had to remind myself this wasn’t based in America — legal drinking age existence lower made a deviation in the openness of alcohol in this particular story that had me wondering if this 1 fell in the YA category or IMO the much more appropriate "new adult" which I personally LOVE.

Maya in particular stuck out to me as a noteworthy character, how she was driven by her want for revenge as information technology related to Jordy and her decision to WIN Second-Chance Romance to humiliate him. As always Gonzales gives her characters such a witty, unique vocalism and I found her openness with being bi refreshing in a book of this setting. The contemporary, realistic viewpoints of her characters kept me giggling, and cheering for anyone Simply Jordy.

Cheers Wednesday Books + NetGalley for the chance to read this title prior to publication day, information technology was a pleasure to read and review!

I loved this one. Never Ever Getting Dorsum Together focuses on Maya and Skye, two ex-girlfriends of Jordy who is famous-adjacent thanks to his sister marrying the crown prince of a European nation and spun that pocket-sized celebrity into his ain dating evidence (of dating his ex'due south). Absolutely, I am a sucker for whatsoever romance gear up at a reality television show but this one is a fun twist on a Bachelor-style dating show. It even plays on the "here for the correct reasons" trope in all the best ways.

Some might be annoyed at the early on utilize of the miscommunication trope to bulldoze the conflict between Maya and Sky only I actually thought it was a adept depiction of how men gaslight their romantic partners and how women are socialized to view each other equally contest. Like it was WILDLY frustrating when Skye buys Jordy'south lies about Maya existence a "psycho" after their break up but it'southward 100% believable given how pervasive the misogynistic "crazy ex-girlfriend" narrative is (I hateful they made a whole testify about it for a reason). Likewise Skye and Maya are *young* -- this is all the same a YA romance afterwards all. Jordy does border on caricature at some times with his shirtless preening but also... it'southward withal not *that* detached from reality!

In general the book is campy ridiculous fun. I have some quibbles well-nigh how the revenge plotline plays out just overall this volume is a great time. If you liked Perfect on Paper you'll similar this i.

Cheers to Wednesday Books and Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of Never Ever Getting Dorsum Together!

This book was an accented delight from beginning to finish. I love Sophie Gonzales something vehement and she's an insta-buy author for me. If This Gets Out and Merely Mostly Devastated are at the top of my favorites list, but Never Always Getting Back Together has now claimed its identify at that place as well.

I fabricated a hope to myself to read more F/F or sapphic romance this year and I'thou happy to say that this falls into that category! Never Always Getting Dorsum Together follows the story of two women, Maya and Skye, who both dated the same guy, Jordy. Maya and Jordy were dating while Jordy was also dating Skye. Uh oh. When the women are thrust together on the aforementioned reality Tv bear witness, Second-Chance Romance, they learn that they were played by the aforementioned guy and work together to try and accept him downward.

Although this book didn't resemble the plot of The Amuse Offensive, it did give me some Charm Offensive vibes. Maya and Skye, although having gotten off to a rocky start, slowly become friends and then something more. The ways that Maya and Skye try and a) rehabilitate Maya'due south character on the show and b) take downward Jordy were hilarious. With a cast of side characters including a girl who's only in it for the followers, a regal junkie, and a drama-loving PA, this volume had it all and it clipped forth at a comfy pace. I never felt similar it dragged and as the chapters go between Skye and Maya, you get two different point of views that really help round the story out.

Never E'er Getting Back Together would be considered YA, in my opinion. There is no explicit sexual scenes, only when it'southward suggested, it is fade to black, which is typical of the author. Although I normally read books with a higher spice level than this, it didn't impact my rating at all. I knew going in who the book was marketed for but Gonzales creates such as a wonderful myriad of characters with creative plot lines that the romance does kind of accept a backseat for me.

I can't look until December and so that I can own a physical re-create of this volume! Information technology was dandy and I'chiliad then glad I get to hype information technology up over the side by side half dozen months!

Maya and Skye were such interesting and great characters. The romance was so refreshing and I loved every second of it. Besides, the entire concept of this volume was amazing, I honestly didn't know if I was going to enjoy it much since I'm not the biggest fan of reality television set, but it completely blew me away and I would recommend this book to anyone in a heartbeat.

The one affair I would have wished is if the characters were a scrap older. I feel equally if it would have made much more than sense if they were in their 20s but information technology was still not bad. Also, I felt similar Skye getting mad at Maya for not rejecting Jordy was a little flake unreasonable, but it’s ok because they got their happy catastrophe anyway and it fabricated the book more interesting.

Give thanks y'all and then much netgalley for the ARC!!

My only wish is that this had been new adult, with the characters 25-thirty. The timeline would work so much better than a group of exes Jordy dated between 16-18.

Definitely not as a run a risk to autumn in honey with the daughter he cheated on her with.

The first few chapters made me very uncomfortable, witnessing these girls second-guess themselves over a pretty but stupid and smug guy was heartbreaking because we all deserve better. In that location was a lot of cringing and second-hand embarrassment. The author did a great task of capturing the toxicity of fame (earned or non, desired or not), of a certain type of reality TV show, of the earth’s obsession with teenage stars.

I’ll be honest (when am I not, though?), this book was more of a three⭐️, possibly three.5⭐️ for most of it. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Skye and Maya as much equally I would take liked. I have a feeling I would have enjoyed the audiobook more, with Natalie Naudus and Barrie Kreinik narrating. But equally the story moved on, I roughshod in honey with Skye and Maya grew on me too and I enjoyed the ending and then much that four⭐️ seem warranted. But damn am I happy I’m not xviii anymore.

Sophie Gonzales has done information technology however once again. Never Ever Getting Dorsum Together is a charming, drama-filled caricature that I couldn’t become plenty of. Packed with Sophie Gonzales’ trademark humour and swoon-worthy romance, this is a can’t miss YA release of this year.

I ever praise the way Gonzales’ ability to craft characters who aren’t perfect and often brand flawed choices, but having the reader always understand exactly where they are coming from then it’s impossible to exist entirely frustrated. This is definitely truthful hither. Both Maya and Skye are well rounded, their perspectives and emotions explored in depth. You know exactly who they are and what they stand for.

The romance was, of course, fabled. It takes its time building up, never feeling too rushed or underdeveloped. The attraction isn’t forced, the banter natural.

The reality Television receiver aspect felt super realistic, scripted lines, fake emotions and all. The hijincks that went along with information technology were really fun. The way those fun moments and experiences, the extravagance, was paired with false reality actually made it experience like a larger than life experience feeling that reality Boob tube aims for. The essence is captured perfectly.

This is my fifth book from Sophie Gonzales at present, and my fifth five star for her. She is truly just exceptional. If you need a sapphic romance filled with the shocks that come up along with reality Television set (and you Practice need it, believe me), look no further.

My Thoughts: This was awesome! Two girls uniting to take downwards their scumbag ex-fellow and falling in honey along the way???? There was sooo much drama (in a good manner)!

Maya & Skye’southward relationship developed very naturally (no instalove, yes!) and was realistic and super cute.

Jordy was just ew. He made me so angry and I spent the entire book wanting to punch him in the face. I will not waste matter whatsoever more space in this review talking near how awful he is, but he was awful. The ending was supremely satisfying though (take that, Jordy, ha!).

I loved all of the contestants and how they banded together and the power of girls and friendship ugh yes!

As well, I laughed then much while reading this. It was so fun and entertaining and chaotic and everything yous could want in a YA romcom.

Recommend to: fans of romance and reality Television receiver

While I’ve merely ever seen 1 season of the Bachelor (and I low primal hated it), I’g obsessed with book adaptations of this reality Boob tube show. While this is a spin on the “Bachelor” idea, I loved the references to behind the scenes production, including the fashion that people are edited to look a sure mode (villain, anyone?) and all those fun mechanics of creating a reality Telly evidence.

The book is told from two points of view – that of Maya and Skye. Jordy, the TV show’s available, cheated on Maya with Skye, merely the latter had no thought of what he’d washed. Maya thinks that Skye did know (because Jordy told her as much), so she hates her on sight. They have quite a few hilarious interactions, peculiarly once production starts treating them with jello shots…

As a reader, I just loved to hate Jordy, the ex. This cheater thinks that he tin dispense all his exes into falling for him once more? Is he ever in for a rude awakening! I loved the concept of the book and the mode that the revenge is planned is just then comical and perfect.

This is a ho-hum burn romance.
Skye and Maya despise each other in the beginning. It was a petty fleck too much of a slow burn down, however. I think the author needed to insert a few more tension-filled moments earlier on. Once they stopped hating each other, they were platonic. Then, they went from platonic friends to kissing friends in the blink of an eye. I needed a flake more build upwardly than that!

Despite being a piffling annoyed past the abruptness of the romance, I admittedly loved this book. The side characters, like Perrie and Isaac, were perfection. I can’t await to check out more books past this author!

Maya is called upwards past reality Tv set producer Gwendolyn to come on a reality show to date her ex fellow, Jordy, again. Maya and so tells her that she’d rather not date satan over again, thanks. However, after some consideration and a call from Jordy she decides to keep the bear witness…for revenge.

As presently equally Maya gets to the set she’s roomed with the girl Jordy cheated on her with, Skye and things start off quite rocky.

I won’t give much more abroad simply the way that the friendships (and something more for some of the characters…) develop and abound is authentic and relatable. Much like my favorite part of watching the show The Bachelor, the way the girls on Second Gamble Romance bond (past the terminate) is absolutely delightful.
