Courtney Banghart: The Accomplished Coach And Loving Wife

The Early Years

Courtney Banghart was born in 1978 in the small town of Amherst, New Hampshire. From a young age, she showed a natural talent for basketball and quickly became a standout player on her high school team. Despite her success on the court, Banghart was equally dedicated to her studies and maintained a high GPA throughout her academic career.

College Years

After graduating from high school, Banghart attended Dartmouth College, where she continued to excel both academically and athletically. She played basketball for the Dartmouth Big Green and was a four-year starter, earning numerous accolades and awards for her performance on the court.

Off the court, Banghart majored in psychology and graduated with honors in 2000. She then went on to earn her Master’s degree in counseling from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

The Coaching Career

Following her graduation from UMass, Banghart began her coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of New Hampshire. She then spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Dartmouth before being named the head coach at the University of North Carolina Asheville in 2007.

During her eight seasons at UNC Asheville, Banghart led the Bulldogs to three regular-season conference championships and two conference tournament championships. In 2011, she was named the Big South Conference Coach of the Year after leading her team to a 23-10 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

In 2019, Banghart was named the head coach of the University of North Carolina women’s basketball team. In her first season with the Tar Heels, she led the team to a 16-14 record and a spot in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

The Family Life

While Banghart’s coaching career has been impressive, her family life is equally fulfilling. In 2003, she married her college sweetheart, Jason Banghart. The couple has two children together, a son and a daughter.

Despite the demands of her coaching career, Banghart makes it a priority to spend quality time with her family. She often brings her children to practices and games, and even invites them to participate in team activities.

The Philanthropic Work

Outside of coaching and family life, Banghart is also involved in numerous philanthropic efforts. She is a strong advocate for women’s sports and is passionate about promoting opportunities for young girls to participate in athletics.

In 2019, Banghart and her husband established the Courtney and Jason Banghart Family Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to student-athletes at Dartmouth College who are pursuing degrees in math, science, or engineering.
